What Art Basel Paris is

Art Basel Paris is the Paris edition of the Art Basel fairs, now in its fifth year. It took over the October slot long held by FIAC and returned to the renovated Grand Palais in 2024.

Paris galleries are a large share of the fair, and French institutions shape the week. The Conversations talks programme runs at the Petit Palais, and a free public programme places work across the city, including the Palais d'Iéna and avenue Winston-Churchill.

What is new in 2026

The fair has a record 12 joint booths, where two galleries share a stand. Nearly 30 galleries are taking part for the first time. Emergence remains the sector for younger galleries and artists.

The market backdrop is better than last year. The Art Basel and UBS Global Art Market Report 2026 puts sales in France at USD 4.5 billion in 2025, up 9% and back above 2019 levels. France is the fourth-largest art market.

The week around it

Satellite fairs such as Asia Now and Paris Internationale run in the same week. Check their own sites for 2026 dates. Paris museums open major shows to coincide, and Art Basel Paris First Choice and Preview cardholders get free entry to partner museums.

Before the fair

Paris is not a rerun of London. Treat it as its own campaign.

  • Write a French version of each artist's bio and the press release. French press and French-language AI answers draw on French sources. An English-only artist is thinner in that pool.
  • On a joint booth, give each artist their own booth page and their own captions. Shared stands blur who made what.
  • Refresh images and angles from Frieze. Journalists who covered your London stand need a new reason to write.
  • Ask two or three AI assistants about each artist, in English and in French. Fix what they get wrong on your own site first.

During and after

  • Add Art Basel Paris 2026 to each artist's exhibition history on your site, with the sector.
  • Follow up with every journalist and curator who visited, in their language.
  • Publish a short post-fair note within a fortnight. It is the page AI answers and future searches will find.

How AI describes the artists on your stand

Collectors and advisers now research artists in ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI answers before and after Art Basel Paris. Established names get confident, accurate summaries. Mid-career and emerging artists often get thin answers, the wrong medium, or a different person with the same name.

Test it yourself. Ask two or three AI assistants who each artist on your stand is, what they make and where they have shown. Note what is missing or wrong. That gap is what a collector sees when they look the artist up on the train home.

We are measuring this at scale in The AI Art Index, our study of how AI talks about contemporary artists. If you represent artists showing at Art Basel Paris, we can run a free report on how AI describes them.
