About the artist

Machine Woman is the name used by Anastasia Vtorova, a Russian-born musician who moved to the UK, spent time in Manchester, Nottingham and London, and studied at Goldsmiths and Westminster (MUTEK Barcelona). She began in punk and noise bands before turning to electronic music, and her techno and house is known for strange, mechanical sounds and joke track titles (FACT). She has released records on Peder Mannerfelt's label, Where To Now? and Ninja Tune's Technicolour imprint, is based in the Midlands, and runs her own label, Take Away Jazz Records (MUTEK Montréal).

Machine Woman is represented in the Joseph Clark Collection by Carbonara, a work in nail varnish on paper, which the collection places within a practice that spans art and experimental electronic music (Joseph Clark Collection).
