About the artist

Michael Hill is a self-taught abstract artist who worked from Banks Mill Studios in Derby and who, by 2022, had spent four years developing an eclectic mix of themes, styles and media. He experiments with application processes, materials and surfaces, producing combinations of conflicting shapes, contrasting colours and varied texture (Derbyshire Open Arts).

His exhibition 1+9+8+4=22 was shown at Banks Mill Studios, Derby, in August 2022 and then moved online as a virtual gallery; its works present visual images of George Orwell's political and social writing (ArtRabbit). The Joseph Clark Collection holds three of his works in acrylic on paper, among them Screen Capture from that exhibition (Joseph Clark Collection).
