About the artist

Meta Isæus-Berlin was born in Stockholm on 25 April 1963, the daughter of the artist Olof Isæus (Wikipedia (Swedish)). She studied at Konstfack and then at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm from 1986 to 1993, the year she had her first solo exhibition at Galleri Mejan and received Gerard Bonnier's large art scholarship (Wikipedia (Swedish)). She lives and works in Stockholm (Meta Isæus-Berlin).

She came to attention in the mid-1990s for her installations and represented Sweden at several international biennials (Galleri Andersson/Sandström); her work has been shown at the Venice and Istanbul biennials (Meta Isæus-Berlin). Two Parallel Now, first made for the Olle Olsson Hagalund Museum in Solna in 2003, sets a worn room furnished from her family home beside an idealised version of it made of organza; it now stands in the atrium of the Stockholm School of Economics (Stockholm School of Economics). After a mid-career exhibition at Liljevalchs in Stockholm in 2006 she declared that painting would be her principal medium (Galleri Andersson/Sandström).

Her work is held by Moderna Museet, Skissernas museum, Magasin 3 and Kiasma, and she sat on the board of Moderna Museet from 2002 to 2008 (Wikipedia (Swedish)).
