About the artist

Siobhán Doran trained in architectural technology at Limerick Institute of Technology and worked in architecture for more than fifteen years before taking a first-class degree in photography at the University of Westminster; she set up her photography practice in 2006 (World Photography Organisation). Originally from Dublin and based in Berkhamsted, she works in the UK and internationally, and her commissions include books on the renovations of The Savoy and The Lanesborough hotels in London (ACC Art Books).

Houses that Sugar Built: An Intimate Portrait of Philippine Ancestral Homes, written with Gina Consing McAdam and published by ORO Editions in February 2024, covers ancestral houses in Iloilo, Negros Occidental and Pampanga, the three main sugar-producing provinces of the Philippines (ACC Art Books). Her series of sala mayor (main living room) photographs from the project won first prize in the Architecture & Design category of the 2024 Sony World Photography Awards professional competition (World Photography Organisation), and was shown at Somerset House, London (The Irish Times). The Royal Academy selected a photograph from the book for its 2023 Summer Exhibition (ACC Art Books).
